ESC The Game: ESC From Sub TXI

A shipshape escape room with no sinking feelings in sight.

I absolutely loved this game.

My partner, Callum, and I decided to take some time out from the world and dive into this online escape room from the comfort of our sofa.

The first thing I noticed was how flawless the interface was. Everything is perfectly laid out, easy to navigate and you can even access your inventory from your phone to keep the game flowing. We opened our first document and were briefed on our mission.

A criminal gang known as The Forsaken had been striking cities around the world using Submarines, and we had to find out where they were planning to attack next and sabotage their plans.

Figuring out the next target turned out to be my favourite part of the game. A mixture of teamwork, combining multiple puzzles and riddles and surprisingly my least favourite subject, Geography, gave such a satisfying feeling when we eventually solved it.

The puzzles were all varied, starting out easier and getting more difficult as we progressed through the rooms of the submarine. I particularly loved how they encouraged us to communicate, quite often one of us would be scribbling away whilst the other was describing what we had to do to solve the puzzle. We could have played on separate laptops, but I did quite enjoy experiencing every puzzle together.

The only thing I slightly missed was a sense of urgency to complete the game. There was no time limit specified, and the last few games I’ve played had videos reminding me that the world would perish if I didn’t act fast. That heart racing feeling is something I enjoy in escape rooms, but it definitely didn’t take away from how good this game was.

I hope there are more games in the pipeline from ESC The Game, as we’ll be first in line to try them out!
